News eliminates two supervisor positions
Email Print
The Northfield News announced the elimination of two advertising supervisory positions Monday.

None of the remaining 17 positions at the Northfield News are impacted or the 47 positions at the newspaper’s printing and distribution center, Cannon Valley Printing, located at 1240 S. Hwy 3.

A widespread economic downturn led to the reduction, according to Northfield News Publisher and Editor Sam Gett. “These are challenging times for all businesses,” Gett said. “Monday’s changes create a more cost-effective operation and position us for continued growth in the future.”

“The events of the past year have forced many companies to re-boot,” Gett said. “For us, that means constantly assessing the most efficient ways to produce and deliver news and advertising information for our customers.”

According to Gett, the newspaper’s content now reaches more people than ever. “The net paid circulation of our print edition is stable and our online audience is significantly higher than a year ago,” he said. “Our readership numbers are healthy and I’m proud of the work our staff produces every day.”

Recently, Mainstream Publications LLC, parent company of the Northfield News, added three new employees and formed a new media division, I-35 Target Media, headquartered in the downtown Northfield News building. I-35 Target Media launched three publications in 2008: 35C business magazine, Girlfriends women’s lifestyle magazine and the Life, Wellness and Eco-Directory. “The new magazine titles, along with our expanded online efforts, demonstrate our commitment to serving local readers and advertisers in a variety of media platforms. That commitment doesn’t change,” Gett said.

Mainstream and its sister company, Huckle Publishing Inc., own two daily and 14 non-daily southern Minnesota publications, Northfield-based Cannon Valley Printing and several specialty publications.
