Tractor collection goes to auction
Email Print
NORTHFIELD — What may be the world’s largest collection of vintage Ford and Fordson tractors will go on the auction block early next month to settle the estate of the late Palmer Fossum.

Matt Maring Auction Co. of Kenyon has more than 55 tractors and an estimated 10,000 parts listed for sale starting Oct. 2 at Fossum’s rural Northfield residence.

Fossum, known by many as “Mr. Ford Tractor,” died at the age of 80 in December 2007 after a brief illness.

Maring estimated the total value of the collection between $250,000 and $500,000, though many of the vehicles are so rare that comparable sale prices aren’t available.

A 1949 Ford 8N equipped with a flathead V-8, for example, originally sold for about $1,500. Maring said the tractor, one of three known originals in the world, could fetch upwards of $15,000.

The auction is expected to draw bidders from at least 30 states, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The public auction is to be held at 1020 100th Ave. E. in rural Northfield that Friday and Saturday.

More details are available at www.maringauction.com.
