As the race for two Northfield City Council seats heats up, two other local elections are just getting under way.
The filing period for four open seats on the Northfield School Board begins on Tuesday and closes at 5 p.m. on Aug. 17. Four-year seats currently held by School Board Members Noel Stratmoen, Mike Berthelsen and board chair Kari Nelson are up for grabs, as is a two-year position currently held by Julie Pritchard.
Anyone interested can pick up affidavits of candidacy from the School District Office, located at 1400 Division St. S. in Northfield. The filing fee is $2. A candidate must be an eligible voter, must be 21 years old, must have lived in the Northfield School District for 30 days before the general election, cannot be registered as a convicted sex offender and cannot have filed for any other office.
The filing period for two seats on the Dundas City Council and for the office of Dundas mayor starts at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and ends at 5 p.m. on Aug. 17.
In Dundas, two council seats, currently occupied by councilors John Zander and John Cruz, are open. The mayoral position, currently held by Glenn Switzer, is also up for election. The mayor and council seats are all four-year terms.
Affidavits of candidacy can be filed at Dundas City Hall at 216 Railway St. North in Dundas. Candidates must have lived in Dundas for 30 days prior to the election, must be an eligible voter who is at least 21 years old when they assume office and cannot have filed for another office. The filing fee is $2.
The general election will be held on Nov. 2.
